Europe: Paris - Day 3 and 4

Our last full day in Paris was dedicated to Montmarte. I have so many favorites from our trip to Europe, but this just might be my favorite part! Montmarte is one of the most historic and interesting neighborhoods in Paris. From the steep and cobbled streets, colorful cafes, to the ivy covered homes -- Montmarte, in my opinion, is the perfect neighborhood!

We took the metro (which was super easy to use) from our hotel to the Abbesses station and walked right out into the heart of Montmarte.

One of the first things we passed was a little boutique called Jade. We stopped in and bought the girls each a hand painted cat.

Montmarte is the highest point in the city of Paris. So we walked and walked up the many steep streets and steps to the top...

and when I got to the top, I rewarded myself with coffee flavored gelato:

We then made our way to the Sacre-Coeur Basilica which sits at the crest of the hill.

The views of Paris from this point were just breathtaking.

We went inside to look at the basilicas beauty and then went up to the dome.

The views from the dome were even more awesome!

Montmarte neighborhood right below us:

Once we got back down from the dome we walked around Montmarte some more and had lunch at a cafe. We loved watching the artists paint and we had multiple caricature artists ask us if we wanted our picture drawn, which we passed on.

Montmarte is the home that nurtured many artists and writers that lived in France for over 200 years. Picasso and Van Gogh were just some of the many that lived and worked in these narrow streets.

I just loved this afternoon in Paris!

On the bottom of the hill is the infamous Moulin Rouge, where we attended a show later that evening.

The next morning we slept in and then walked around the city one last time before we had to take a taxi to the Airport to catch our flight for Germany.

Our last time looking at the beautiful Eiffel Tower and of course, I had to get myself a crepe before we left. I had a Nutella crepe while Jeff had a crepe with strawberry jam. Jeff definitely expanded his dessert horizons on this trip, because once again, he had never had a crepe. He didn't think he would like it -- but boy was he wrong! He wished he would have tried one sooner!

It was really hard saying goodbye to Paris! Next stop .... Germany!
