Europe: London - Day 3

On our last full day in London we started our afternoon off by visiting the Tower of London.

Another picture of us in front of the Tower Bridge:

The Tower of London is not actually just a tower but a castle with a series of buildings surrounded by a wall and a moat. The White Tower is the original castle and was built in 1078 by William the Conqueror. There was so much history and interesting artifacts within the many buildings, that it was impossible to see everything. We opted to walk around without a tour and preferred walking through everything at our own leisure.

One of the things most people (including me!) want to see is the Crown Jewels. The Crown Jewels actually encompass present and past crowns belonging to Sovereigns, Consorts and Princes of Wales, sceptres, rings, swords, orbs, spurs, robes, bracelets, and gold and silver plates and more! I had heard the line to see this would be really long, but we lucked out with only waiting about 30 minutes. No pictures were allowed inside.

Side note: The Ravens of the Tower of London are a group of at least six captive ravens which live at the Tower of London (their wings are clipped). Their presence is traditionally believed to protect the Crown and the tower; a superstition holds that "if the Tower of London ravens are lost or fly away, the Crown will fall and Britain with it". So as we were strolling through the Tower we would see the ravens walking around outside.

After visiting the Tower we grabbed some Fish and Chips for lunch and then headed to see St. Paul's Cathedral.

a stroll by the London Eye...

and then back to our hotel to get ready to see a show!

Our last night in London we saw Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theater. We both really enjoyed the show but we were sad that our London trip was coming to an end. We ate a late meal at the restaurant connected to our hotel and slept in the next morning, trying to catch up on our sleep!

London was AWESOME. It was everything I had hoped it would be and more. Next stop... PARIS!
