On Wednesday we hit the road at about 3am. We had no hotels booked for this first leg of the trip, we figured we would just drive as much as we could and figure it out as we went.
Here is a picture of the girls at about 7:30 am when they all started to wake up. Everyone was in a good mood! |
We originally thought maybe we would make it to somewhere near Atlanta, Ga. However, we were making such good time and the kids were doing so well that we ended up driving to Savannah! I was super excited that we were able to go here, since I've always been interested in Savannah. We spent the evening relaxing in the hotel and went to bed shortly after.
Our hotel was located in the historic district. It was raining when we first woke up, but by the time we all got dressed the sun started to come out. We strolled through the streets and just walked around taking in the beautiful scenery. Here, the girls are outside the hotel after they threw coins into the fountain.
We walked around for about an hour and then grabbed some breakfast at Panera Bread.
I think one of my most favorite things about walking around downtown Savannah is the beautiful Oak trees that are dripping with Spanish moss.
Savannah is rich in history and architecture, and has over 20 parklike squares. Checking out Chippewa Square was a must. This square is known for the famous park bench scene from Forest Gump! While the original bench has been placed in the Savannah History Museum, it was still neat to look at all the benches and imagine the movie being filmed there.
Time to check out and head to our next stop- Charleston!
