New York City: Day 1

In lieu of traditional gifts and lots of extra stuff, we opted to surprise the girls with an experience this year. So while the girls still did get presents (we scaled back), we planned a trip to New York City!

We left very early on the 26th and drove to the Big Apple!

I have not been to NYC since Jeff and I eloped there 11 years ago! It was so fun to be back in one of my favorite places!

First time EVER driving in the city:

The check in lines at the hotel were forever long. It felt like we were in a movie or something.

It turned out our room was not ready yet, so we headed around the corner to grab some lunch.

After lunch, we walked around the city a bit. It was beyond COLD the whole entire time we were there. The girls wore their big jackets, hats AND ear muffs, gloves, and they were still having a tough time. They have never experienced temperatures like that before! The freezing temps triggered a city-wide "Code Blue."

Our hotel was right next to Time Square. It was nice to be centrally located.

We headed down 5th avenue... one of the best little stretches in the city. We were able to look at the beautiful Christmas displays in all of the famous stores, along with Rockefeller Center, St. Pat's cathedral, Trump Tower, and  Tiffany's. We ended at Central Park so the kids could see The Plaza Hotel.

Our family loves Trump, so stopping inside the Tower was a must:

One of our very favorite Christmas movies is Home Alone! The kids were excited to see The Plaza Hotel where Kevin had stayed in Home Alone 2.

After all that walking in the cold, we took the kids on the Subway back to the hotel to get settled.

First time on the Subway for our girls:

After we got our bags into our room and relaxed for a bit we headed over to Dylan's Candy Bar.

Our family split the "I Bet You Can't Sundae."

We walked around the store and then headed back to the hotel.
